Eastern DRC is not an option: the M23 armed group has held Goma and Bukavu, including their airports, since early 2025 and fighting continues despite peace agreements; Virunga National Park is closed to tourists and gorilla trekking there cannot be booked. Kinshasa's dry season runs roughly June to August, with the heaviest rains in October–November and March–May. Season matters less than security here: eastern DRC is closed regardless of the calendar, so plan a Kinshasa-only trip around the dry months and check advisories before booking.

Kinshasa only — the east is off the table
A realistic first trip is Kinshasa and its surroundings: the music scene, the Congo River, Lola ya Bonobo sanctuary outside the city. Virunga and the eastern parks are closed to tourists and the region is under armed-group control — no operator can responsibly sell that leg in 2026. If gorillas are the goal, Rwanda and Uganda are the open alternatives.
