Do not drink tap water. Boiled water provided in hotels. Bottled water everywhere.
Internet is heavily censored — no Google, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube. Download a VPN before arriving. Tibet and Xinjiang require special permits and have restrictions.
Do NOT tip. Tipping is not customary and can be seen as insulting. Service charge included at upscale hotels.
Casual and practical. Modest at temples. Chinese cities are fashion-forward.
