MDAC: instant. Embassy visa: 3–5 business days.
MDAC: free. Embassy visa: varies by nationality ($15–50).
签证要求因国籍而异并经常变化。旅行前请与你所在国家的大使馆或目的地官方移民机构核实。
Generally safe for tourists. Kuala Lumpur has petty crime (snatch theft, pickpocketing) but violent crime against tourists is rare. East Malaysia (Borneo) is safe. Eastern Sabah coast has kidnapping risks — check advisories.
Tap water is treated but most locals and visitors drink boiled or bottled water. Bottled water is very cheap.
Avoid the eastern coast of Sabah (Sandakan to Semporna border area) due to kidnapping risks. Monsoon seasons affect different coasts at different times. Haze from Indonesian fires can affect air quality (August–October).

Tipping is not expected. Service charge (10%) and government tax (6%) are added at most restaurants. Rounding up is appreciated at casual eateries. No tipping at hawker stalls.
Casual and lightweight. Cover shoulders and knees at mosques (robes are usually provided). Dress modestly in conservative Muslim areas. Beach towns are relaxed.
Muslim-majority country but multiethnic (Malay, Chinese, Indian). Alcohol is available but less visible than in non-Muslim countries. Respect prayer times and mosque etiquette. Remove shoes at all religious sites. During Ramadan, be discreet about eating in public in Muslim areas.
